Thanking Kim Giancaterino
Does Kim require an introduction? Long time squidangel – she has helped so many lensmasters it’s amazing.
Why are you a squidoo lensmaster?
I was interested in virtual real estate even before I heard of Squidoo. Two years ago I was in the process of contracting with a company to build niche websites for me, then learned that I would be responsible for purchasing domains, etc. It got very complicated very quickly, and I extricated myself from that process to do further research. When I discovered Squidoo through a forum posting on another site, I couldn’t believe the marketing opportunity that was available for free. Getting paid to create lenses was icing on the cake.
What is your favorite lens?
I have a couple of favorites: Margaret Schaut’s “Michelangelo’s David” is stunning. I’m also in awe of Karendelac’s “RMS Titanic, Ship of Dreams”. These two lenses have won numerous awards and always inspire me to try harder.
What lens of yours is most under appreciated?
Probably a lens I did to support the widow of a murdered police officer: “Murdered By Mumia“. I’m not a death penalty advocate, but decided to write the lens after hearing Maureen Faulkner speak on a radio program. This woman has been through hell, and needed someone in her corner. The man who killed her husband, Mumia Abu-Jamal, has plenty of support throughout the world. Maureen’s side of the story deserved to be heard too.
What lens of yours is most popular?
It varies… right now “Sarah Palin’s Saucy Updo” is my highest ranking lens, but people will lose interest in that topic after the election. My ‘”Daylight Saving Time” (http://www.squidoo.com/daylightsavingstime) lens does well twice a year! It’s popular right now since the time is about to change again.
What’s one thing you see lensmasters doing that doesn’t work – and why doesn’t it?
Selling… and I’m guilty of this myself since my professional background is in advertising and promotion. I was a technical writer and a copywriter, so I’m still refining a writing style that works with permission marketing. Seth is a great teacher, though!
What’s your most important squidoo promotion method?
In terms of promoting on Squidoo, I find that leaving guestbook comments for other lensmasters invites reciprocation, particularly if I’ve also given their lens a Squid Angel Blessing. People get excited about that! I always take time to reciprocate if someone leaves a comment on one of my lenses.
Which lensmaster(s) have helped you most?
Margaret Schaut was the first person to reach out to me when I joined Squidoo, and also helped me through a few rough spots when I was discouraged and ready to give up.
